The Value of Education
KaLee Webb understands the value of a good education. "My husband has always benefited from the knowledge he gained after he earned his Bachelor's degree. The potential for more monetary gain is not the only benefit. The knowledge gained from a good education can also increase your confidence."
When the city of Mathis, Texas, began outgrowing KaLee's knowledge and skills as their Comptroller, KaLee recognized the need to continue her education. "I realized I have to increase my knowledge base to stay ahead of the impending growth of the city." With a part-time position as a bookkeeper and secretary as well as her full-time position, City Council meetings to attend and family responsibilities, KaLee believed that continuing her education could be difficult. "I investigated the options available that would allow for fluctuations in my work schedule and I researched the accreditation of online as well as brick and mortar universities." KaLee chose Colorado Tech Online because it meets all of her criteria and offers a flexible class schedule in which she can complete her degree in a relatively short time frame.
Working With Numbers
KaLee is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree program. "I love working with numbers, so it just seemed natural for me to pursue a career in accounting." KaLee found that some of the material taught in her accounting courses at Colorado Tech Online can be immediately applicable in her profession. Embedded within Kalee's degree program are five certificates, one of which is Financial Statement Analysis. "In some cases I was able to implement my knowledge immediately. The most useful information I learned in my classes at Colorado Tech Online may have been Financial Statement Analysis. It gave me a better understanding of the notes and processes that our investors, creditors and auditors can utilize. Now, I can evaluate our financials and recommend actions that may help promote growth within our city."
Online learning at Colorado Tech Online has several advantages for KaLee. The live sessions are recorded and archived. "Having the choice of attending the live sessions or listening to the archives at my convenience provides the sort of flexibility that can work well with my schedule." KaLee's long term goal is to own a motorcycle shop. She feels earning her degree at Colorado Tech Online can be a step toward achieving that goal. "Having our own business and the time to travel and enjoy life is the ultimate goal. Most of my short term goals, such as earning my degree, are a means to that end."
