Meet Marjory Munson
BSBA with a concentration in Health Care Management
Marjory Munson, current Colorado Tech Online student, has always been an active person. She has never needed a wake up call. Early in her childhood, her family learned they could not tell her to retire for the night because she was tired. "When it was bedtime, I would be told to go to sleep because everyone else was tired." Nonetheless, Marjory did get a "wake up call" three years ago. "Cancer was a wake up call for me. I am a survivor of chemotherapy and numerous surgeries. My illness may have stopped me from physically performing work duties outside of my home, but it will not stop me from achieving my goals and doing what I do best."
Marjory did her homework before enrolling through Colorado Tech Online. "Since I am physically unable to attend a traditional ground campus, I began shopping around for online universities. I had a list of criteria. I wanted to attend an accredited online university that offers good personal interaction and the dynamics of group learning and project-based learning; that offers multimedia instructional materials and hard textbooks; and that offers the degree programs I am seeking. Colorado Tech Online beat the competition by meeting all my criteria. I would recommend Colorado Tech Online to anyone."
Marjory retired from working in the health care industry in January, at age 69, but her work is far from over. Thanks to Colorado Tech Online, Marjory has turned retirement into a new beginning. Learning and teaching are passions for Marjory and that is one of the reasons she enrolled through Colorado Tech Online. "My goal is to earn a Master's degree through Colorado Tech Online and use it to do what I do best, which is help others understand. Conveying words and facts to students is not enough. Facilitating the learning process and creating an environment in which individuals understand and apply concepts defines the instructional process for me. Colorado Tech Online is an ideal environment for that type of learning and I can do that from home, which could be a great situation for me."
Having many years of experience working with health care professionals, Marjory feels health care is compatible with her desire to help others because she can bring her experience into the virtual classroom. "My experience at Colorado Tech Online has been great. I have developed comfortable relationships with my instructors and fellow students. Based on my input in group forums and discussion boards, several students have consulted me and may have benefited from my experience."
Online learning through Colorado Tech Online has many advantages for Marjory. "Online learning not only enables me to overcome my physical limitations, but also matches my learning style. The flexibility of online learning lets me plan my day within my framework. The live chats and discussion boards enable more interaction between students and instructors than I would experience in a crowded lecture hall at a brick and mortar campus. This promotes teamwork, which is a valuable skill. I have always been very verbose, with a large vocabulary, and the large amount of written communication required with online learning helps improve my vocabulary and enables me to excel. Colorado Tech Online is a wonderful experience!"
