Deploying Educational Opportunities

Adam Kirsch has always dreamed of continuing his education. "I never believed I could go to college, so I enlisted in the Army. Before long it seemed like I would serve 25 years and retire. Now I have new goals to achieve. I have a beautiful wife in Germany and a newly arrived son and I want the opportunity to provide a comfortable living for them. I want to end my service in the Army and try to achieve my goals in the civilian world. Before my discharge I want to have the qualifications for a rewarding career that can keep my family happy. I believe earning a degree in a growing field that interests me can help me achieve my goals. Online learning through Colorado Tech Online can enable me to begin now."

Adam is currently a Private First Class in the United States Army and is deployed in Iraq. "I work on the Multi-National Corps of Iraq Command Sergeant Majors Convoy Security Team. We travel around Baghdad and provide armed escort while the CSM checks on troops, posts and other security matters." Being deployed overseas can lead to putting thoughts of continuing education on hold for a lot of soldiers, but not Adam. "Under these circumstances I had to take a lot of steps before I could enroll through Colorado Tech Online. My Admissions Advisor, Terrance, initially spoke with my mother who informed him that I was interested in enrolling but would not be home for seven months. About two weeks later he called me and worked through the application process with me. I was impressed with the amount of time and effort he spent in reaching out to me halfway around the world and assisting me with the application process."

CTU Alumni: Adam KirschThe opportunity to pursue the degree of your choice can make higher education a great experience. The classes are not easy, but they can be very interesting and rewarding if you choose a field you have a passion for.

Adam chose Colorado Tech Online for several reasons. "I have a lot of things to consider while attending college overseas in the Army. I need a degree program that is right for me, I need flexibility and I need instructors that can understand the difficulties of attending classes in my situation. With the help of my advisor, I realized Colorado Tech Online can meet my needs. Enrolling there was the easiest choice I have ever made and I am glad I made that choice."

Adam chose to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a concentration in International Business. "At first I was not sure what degree to pursue. My father works in business management and I have always looked up to him. My wife and I love to travel and I would love to have the opportunity to begin a career in IT or marketing with a multi-national corporation. When I saw all the choices mapped out for me on the Colorado Tech Online website and a BSBA with a concentration in International Business was one of them, it made it easy for me!"

Getting an Education While Serving the Country

Adam soon realized online learning through Colorado Tech Online has other benefits besides enabling him to continue his education while serving his country in Iraq. "The advantages of online learning for me can seem almost endless. I enjoy the environment that the Virtual Campus brings to me. As soon as I got my log-on ID and password I was hooked! I spend a lot of time browsing and interacting with people who can be very friendly and helpful. The live sessions are fun and are archived so I can attend them at my convenience. I can work according to my schedule, even with the limited amount of computer time I have each day on the base in Iraq. My instructors have been extremely understanding of my personal situation and things that can change on a day to day basis. Online learning at Colorado Tech Online has been an inspiration for me. I am working harder than I ever have in my life because I am motivated to succeed. In fact, after I finish my Bachelor's degree program, I am planning on continuing through Colorado Tech Online for a Master of Science in Management with a concentration in Business Management and perhaps even a Ph.D at another university."

Adam feels that what he is learning in his courses through Colorado Tech Online will be applicable in practice as well as in theory in an international business environment. "I have been sharing some of the things that I am learning through Colorado Tech Online with my father. We can have good conversations about business. I am learning through discussions with him how the concepts can be applied and I may have even given him some new ideas to apply to his company. (I hope I get some credit). I believe I can get a quality education at Colorado Tech Online because many of my instructors work in the fields that they teach and can apply their knowledge and experience in the virtual classroom. Learning from people with that level of knowledge and experience can be an amazing experience!"

Adam has some words of advice for both current and potential Colorado Tech Online students: "If you are thinking about continuing your education and you see a degree that is right for you through Colorado Tech Online, do not think twice – just go for it! The opportunity to pursue the degree of your choice can make higher education a great experience. The classes are not easy, but they can be very interesting and rewarding if you choose a field you have a passion for. If you are in the military and you manage your time properly, you can make Colorado Tech Online work for you as well as it works for me."
