Saving Himself from Outsourcing

David Burrow planned on getting a college degree shortly after high school, but fell into a career in Information Technology instead. He would still take a few classes at the local community college every so often, but says, "Once I started working, I found I did not really have any time to go to school." Before David knew it, he had been working in IT for over a decade and was making as much money and had as much responsibility as he ever would with only a high school diploma. "That was when I stopped procrastinating and started getting serious about getting a college degree. But I knew I couldn't take time off from work to do it."

Luckily for David, he started researching options to brick and mortar schools, which he already knew weren't a possibility, around the time online education was really taking off and gaining wide acceptance. "Once I learned about the online alternatives, I knew I could get my degree." David spent a few months researching before settling on Colorado Tech Online because of its accreditation and the recruiter he spoke with.

CTU Alumni: David BurrowI don't think-in fact, I know-I wouldn't have gotten this new job without my degree.

"At another school I had looked at, it was such a hard sell. It didn't feel the recruiter was concerned about my education at all; he was like a used car salesman and just wanted me in the door. This was my education I was looking at though and I didn't want to be rushed. I wanted to make sure I got it just right. The Colorado Tech Online Admissions Advisor answered all of my questions and then some and gave me all the time I needed. But I didn't need that much time to think about Colorado Tech, it just felt right and I was enrolled before I knew it."

It turns out Colorado Tech Online was right. David says he is better able to understand the entire business and process of IT and has developed a more well rounded perspective of the field thanks to his degree. And he has already used his degree to save himself from becoming a victim of outsourcing. If David hadn't had a Bachelor's Degree, he would not have been able to apply for, and get, a job as a project lead when his job as an IT Support Tech was slated for outsourcing. "I don't think—in fact, I know—I wouldn't have gotten this new job without my degree."

Now that he has stopped procrastinating about furthering his education, David is really going for it. He has already enrolled in a Master's Program in Project Management, also at Colorado Tech Online. "I wanted to get my Master's Degree at Colorado Tech Online because I like knowing that I have to work hard to earn my degree. It's more of an accomplishment than if you can just coast." Once finished with this, he might go for an MBA. "My boss is worried I'm going to take her job."
