Meet Cindy Akkerman

MBA with a concentration in Health Care Management
Cindy Akkerman may be on an educational fast track. Earning two Master's degrees in 20 months is certainly remarkable. Considering Cindy did this while working two jobs, one full time, may make that even more impressive. What may be truly astonishing, however, is that Cindy has a 4.0 grade point average in both her Master's degree programs!

She earned an Executive Master's of Business Administration degree and that qualifies her to earn a second MBA with a concentration in Health Care Management by completing just three more classes. "If I cannot attend the live class sessions on the virtual campus, I can listen to recorded archives when it suits my schedule. At Colorado Tech Online, I am able to apply the time I may have to spend commuting to classes, sitting through lectures and preparing for exams at a traditional university to the projects that determine my grades. I have always been able to apply concepts to tangible projects better than describe concepts in theory on tests and online learning through Colorado Tech Online can enable me to do what I do better."
Cindy feels the emphasis on project based learning at Colorado Tech Online can be more applicable in today's work environment than studying theories and concepts. "Applying theories and concepts to projects can have immediate applications in your current position. I have been able to give feedback to my staff and my manager that may have resulted in increased responsibilities for me in my current position in health care administration. One of my classmates created a list of provider's rights at her workplace that was very similar to one of our class projects. It is great to see that what I am learning at Colorado Tech Online can be immediately applicable in today's work environment and in my career."
Colorado Tech Online not only can lead to more responsibilities in Cindy's current career, but also may have opened new career opportunities for her. "My long term goal is to attend law school. I earned my undergraduate degree from a traditional university where my grade point average was not as good as it was at Colorado Tech Online. My undergraduate grades may have required me to get a nearly perfect score on the law school admissions test in order to get accepted into law school. Now my successful completion of two Master's degree programs from Colorado Tech Online with a 4.0 GPA will be taken into consideration and I may be more likely to get accepted into law school."
